Coronavirus (COVID-19) presents high risks for older people

President, Dr. John W. Rowe, MD, is a member of the WHO Global Network on Long-Term Care (GNLTC), a multi-disciplinary network of experts and organizations that support THE WHO in developing norms and guidelines necessary for the implementation of the WHO Global Strategy and Action Plan on Ageing and Health, especially in areas of long-term care. The WHO GNLTC recently issued guidance for long-term care facilities in response to COVID-19. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Secretary General, Dr. Toni C. Antonucci, PHD, and head IAGG UN Designate, is working with our other distinguished UN representatives, HelpAge International, the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse, and the NGO Committee on Ageing (New York and Geneva) on a response to the UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights regarding the current outbreak of COVID-19 and its implications on the human rights of older person around the world.

GSIA Program Director, Dr. Norah Keating, PHD, is a member of an international expert panel to the World Health Organization on Guidance on older people and COVID-19. This panel was coordinated by the ALANA Officer at the WHO, in Geneva. The goal of this panel is to develop a more general set of guidelines to support older adults in the context of COVID-19.
