2013 Busse Research Awards - Call for Nominations

Duke USA

To promote international research in gerontology, two Busse Research Awards will be given at the 20th IAGG World Congress of Gerontology and Geriatrics in Seoul, Korea, June 23-27, 2013. Two gerontologists (junior or mid-career) will be selected. One award will recognize a scientist from the social/behavioral sciences; the other from the biomedical sciences. Awards are $6,000 each, with up to $3,000 travel/living expenses. Awardees must present a lecture based on their research at the conference. Deadline for receipt of applications: October 1, 2012.

In order to build on the momentum of the 1st Africa Region congress in Cape Town, South Africa (October 2013), and to promote the participation of an important African delegation, assistance will be happy provided for group registration and accommodation.  You are also encouraged to submit an abstract of your work for inclusion in the Seoul program, even though submitting an abstract is not a precondition for being part of the group of delegates. All registrations should be done through the IAGG Africa Region office (Dr Isabella ABODERIN).

The first session will be dedicated to the “Prevention of Frailty in Robust Older Adults” and the 2nd session will treat “How to Implement Frailty into Clinical Practice and Clinical Research?”. 51st session of UN's Commission for Social Development (CSocD)

On February 15, 2013, concluding its 51st session, UN's Commission for Social Development (CSocD) approved five draft resolutions for adoption by the Economic and Social Council, covering a range of issues pivotal to the promotion of societies rooted in respect for the dignity of every individual, from youth and disability, to ageing and African development. Several of the texts approved highlighted the critical importance of empowering people and of their participation in advancing social development.
