A new Chair for IAGG's North America Region

Dr Toni ANTONUCCI was appointed Chair of IAGG's North America Region during the 64th annual meeting of GSA held in Boston, USA November 2011. Our Organization congratulates her for having accepted to promote IAGG's regional activities and looks forward to a continued mutual cooperation. (see Executive section)

IAGG takes the opportunity to thank Dr Norah KEATING for her repeated commitment over the past years and sends its best wishes for the future.

IAGG will organize its 2nd Intensive Course on Ageing on June 21-22, 2012 at the Institut de l’Envelliment of the University Autonoma of Barcelona.  The provisional program will be dedicated to Gerontology and Cancer and will include topics such as •How to teach & how to publish in Gerontology•Palliative Care•Clinical trials•Clinical case in psychogeriatrics•Longitudinal study•Epidemiological & medical aspects•Links between biology of ageing and cancerogenesis•Progress in therapy research in cancer•Physical performance in older patients in cancer•Anemia and cancer•Nut

IAGG and the IANA2012 Conference

The meeting will focus on maintaining function with age: physical, cognitive, nutrition, brain and muscle function, prevention of frailty with advancing age. This research and practice symposium will be organized with the IAGG (the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics), the IANA (International Academy on Nutrition and Aging), the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) and the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine. Researchers from around the world will present new findings in these important fields.

IAGG is proud to announce, the organization of the 1st regional congress for Africa. This event will be an occasion to overview the current situation and perspectives of ageing Africa, to raise awareness on regional needs and expectations, and to promote involvement in all aspects of ageing issues in this part of the world.  Themes will include : Ageing Africa: Key Perspectives, Participation and Development, Health and Health Care, Environments and Communities. United States to host IAGG's World Congress in 2017, San Francisco (USA)

As member of IAGG's North American Region, the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) presented a bid to host IAGG's 21st World Congress in San Francisco, USA for 2017. The Council voted unanimously in favour of this candidacy in view of GSA's long experience in organizing major events and of the city's important conference facilities. The theme of this future milestons will be "Global Aging and Health: Bridging Science, Policy and Practice". All our best wishes to the Organizing Committee....
