The Sociedad Argentina de Gerontologia y Geriatria (SAGG) organized their last congress from September 2-5, 2009 at the Pan American Buenos Aires Hotel. More than 2000 professionnals attended this event around the following topics : promotion of health, fostering of physical and psychical activity, improvement of sanitary and social assistance, handling of dementias.

The 1st International Congress on Alzheimer’s Disease and Advanced Neurotechnologies is organized by AMPA (Association Monégasque Pour la recherche sur le maladie d’Alzheimer). Under the high patronage of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, it will be held at the Auditorium Rainier III in the Principality of Monaco. Four different topics will be treated during this event:

IAGG Executive Board Meeting

Sorèze

The IAGG Executive Board got together in Sorèze in Southern France for a two-day working sessions. Topics for discussion included the Collaborating Centres program and the next World Congress of Gerontology and Geriatrics in Paris 2009.
The meeting was chaired by President Renato Maia Guimarães and included Claudia Burlá, Monica Perracini, Bruno Vellas, Gloria Gutman, Alain Franco, Athanase Benetos, Heung Bong Cha, Jean-Pierre Baeyens, Yasushi Ouchi, Norah Keating, Fernando Gomez, Laura Machado, Paula Travassos, Carlos André Oighenstein.

World Economic Forum Global Agenda meeting in Dubai, Nov 7-9, 2008

IAGG President Renato Maia Guimaraes and immediate past-president Gloria Gutman took part in the World Economic Forum Summit on the Global Agenda, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on November 7-9. One of the purposes of this forum is to advise world leaders in different areas, establihsing priorities and setting trends. The Gerontology commitee includes delegates of a number of institutions, and presented a report that fully matches the goals of IAGG.

IAGG in Africa

IAGG sponsored a meeting organized by AFRAN, of the University of the Oxford Institute of Ageing, to discuss ageing in four African countries (Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa). On July 8-10, 2008, the "Advancing Health Service Provision for Older Persons and Age-related Non-communicable Disease (NCD) in sub-Saharan Africa" meeting was held in Abuja to discuss the main aspects of chronic disease and ageing in sub-Saharan Africa.
